THE GOSPEL
In everything we do, the gospel (“good news”) of Jesus Christ is proclaimed! We know that sin entered this world through people and God justly placed a consequence – death – on sin. Jesus Christ came in the flesh, lived righteously, and became the sacrifice for our sins by taking the wrath of God on Himself. He died a death reserved for me and for you. He went to the grave for us. But it didn’t end there. He was raised to life on the third day, defeating sin and death. He took His rightful place as Messiah, Redeemer, Savior, and Lord! What a powerful and foundational part of our mission statement. We hope you have even found that to be true on our website. We believe God has formed Renewed Life Church to be a place where the lost, sick, and broken come to find hope, healing, and new life. We cling to the ONE who can provide our only hope, everlasting healing, and new life now. The gospel is transformational! With every uncertainty that we wake up to each day, we need an unchangeable truth. We need THE unchangeable truth. We want nothing more than to get back to the radical requirements of following Jesus.
If God has directed you here and you want nothing more than to give your life to Jesus Christ, you’re in the right place. The simplicity of the gospel can’t be overstated.
ACCEPT —
We must ACCEPT who Jesus is as the Savior of the world, and we must accept who we are as sinners standing before a holy and perfect God. This is crucial to our salvation. We have to be told that we are sinners who have sinned against a holy and perfect God and accept that as fact. “There is no one righteous, not even one.” Romans 3:10 (CSB) “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (CSB) We have to accept that the penalty for our sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 (CSB) We have to accept that Jesus is the Savior of the world and what He has accomplished for us on the cross, in the grave, and raised to life again satisfies the just wrath of our God. We must accept who Jesus is and who we are.
In John, chapter 3 Jesus is explaining to Nicodemus that everyone must be “born again”. “How can these things be?” asked Nicodemus. “Are you a teacher of Israel and don’t know these things?” Jesus replied. “Truly I tell you, we speak what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you do not accept our testimony.” John 3:9-11 (CSB) Jesus just got done telling a reputable teacher of Israel that everyone must be born again…must be born of the Spirit. There has to be a spiritual re-birth that takes place. Jesus delivered this message but Nicodemus could not accept the testimony being presented to him by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus later said to a group of Jewish listeners, “I have come in my Father’s name, and yet you don’t accept me. If someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.” John 5:43 (CSB) We must accept who Jesus says He is and what He has done. We must accept that He is the Savior of the world.
BELIEVE —
We must BELIEVE in who Jesus is and what He has accomplished on the cross, in the grave, and raised to life again for our salvation. Once we accept who Christ is and who we are condemned in our sin, we must believe that Jesus is the answer. Listen how many times Jesus invites Nicodemus, and us now, to believe in who He is and what He was sent to do. “If I have told you about earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven — the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.” John 3:12-18 (CSB) Paul reinforces this clearly for us. “If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:9-10 (CSB) We must believe in who Jesus is and what He was sent to accomplish for our salvation through His death, burial, and resurrection.
CHOOSE —
We must CHOOSE to go to Jesus and receive the free gift of eternal life from Him. When we accept who Jesus is and who we are in our sin, and believe that His accomplishment on the cross, in the grave, and raised to life again has secured our salvation, then we must choose to willfully go to Him to receive the free gift of eternal life. This is a willful choice and is a decision every person must make for themselves. Again, to a crowd of Jewish people, Jesus said, “but you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.” John 5:40 (CSB) Jesus was making it clear for them, and for us now, that we must choose to go to Him so that we may have life — eternal life. “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (CSB) Eternal life is a gift from God that we must choose to receive from Him. “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (CSB) God will never make you receive this gift of eternal life. This has to be a willful choice. We must choose to run to Christ and receive this free gift of eternal life from Him. “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13 (CSB) He is waiting!
